over the keys to the SRGUG Chairman Mark Nuttall to officially signal the
end of building work

The Development Committee is disbanded
after more than six years of hard to work to fund and complete the
project. Thanks to Mark
Nuttall, Darren Watkins, John Hicks, Kyran McDonald, Duncan Page and
Eileen Nuttall for all their efforts as members of this Committee.

Official opening
ceremony takes place.
Tennis courts are used
for the first time.

The SRGUG opens for
business!
Phase One & Phase
Two: Ready for occupation –
but the project is not yet finished.
Phase Three:
Tennis courts are colour sprayed and are therefore finished.

Building is now watertight with all roofing and Middle Section now
in place. Work starts in
Fixtures and Fittings.

Two: New windows and fascia

Shepherd Neame is
officially chosen as the SRGUG’s supplier to its new bar.
Work starts on the adjoining middle
section of the new building.

Phase One:
The majority of the roof is finished.

Two: SLHCC
Clubhouse is handed over to the SRGUG.
Work starts on Phase
Two on 4th
January.
Phase Three:
The
contract to refurbish the existing tennis courts is awarded to ETC Sports
Surfaces Ltd. Work starts on
Phase Three on 16th January.
Further changes are made to the SRGUG
Constitution. The SRGUG now
comprises Stanford-le-Hope Cricket Club, Stanford-le-Hope Rugby Football
Club & United Services Bowls Club.

building work for Phase Two of the project (the refurbishment of the
existing building) is awarded to AE Higgs Builders.
Building work on Phase
One reaches roof level with the trusses being secured before Christmas.

Changes are made to the SRGUG Constitution as the SRGUG General Committee
is restructured for the new building.

Work continues on the lengthy and complex
negotiations with Thurrock Council regarding the lease for the land on
which the building will stand.

In light of the failed Lottery bid the
Cory Trust decides to fund the majority of the project by increasing its
offer of total funding to £227,500.

|
Sport England
disallows the SRGUG appeal. The
application process to Sport England is therefore concluded.

2004
|
Sport England finally
informs the SRGUG that its application has failed. The SRGUG decides to appeal against the decision.

October
2003
|
The SRGUG receives its
first correspondence from Sport England East outlining the changes made to
Sport England’s organisation. The
new East Regional Sports Board will meet at the end of November to discuss
its overall policy with regard to funding.
Since the Board still has to receive a budget it is likely that the
earliest possible date that the SRGUG could possibly receive an Action
Plan is spring 2004.

|
Sport England
announces the results of its stock-take.
The SRGUG project is successful in being referred to the newly
formed East Region Sports Board for future consideration. 40 other
projects are not so fortunate and were rejected.

Sport England
announces a general review of funding. All projects within Stage 1 of the
application process are put on hold pending a decision by the end of July.

Buy-a-Brick has
reaches the £3,670 in pledges - an amazing achievement.

The SRGUG Buy-a-Brick
launches at the SRGUG AGM as the User Group seeks to raise at least £11,500
towards its bid for Lottery funding from Sport England.

Sport England
recommends the project to pass through Stage I of the Lottery funding
application process and proceed to Stage II.
