Stanford le Hope CC Match Reports –16th September 2006

Saturday Friendly

HAT-TRICK HERO HIGGINS HUMBLES GRAYS

Stanford  152ao (36 overs)                                      Grays & Chadwell   110ao (26.4 overs)

Wayne Simmons 60, Lee Knight 31              C.Richardson 45,  Matt Higgins 5-30

Matt Higgins destroyed the Grays and Chadwell innings with a great spell of opening bowling, bringing both his first senior five wicket haul and his first hat-trick, which he achieved in his 3rd over. There was no answer from the Grays lads, although Colin Richardson toughed it out to score 45 to ensure his team achieved respectability.

Earlier, Stanford had been indebted to former Grays man Wayne Simmons (60), who seems to like batting against his old mates. This was his second half-century of the season against them. He held the innings together as Canavon and Challis picked up three wickets apiece, whilst Lee Knight chipped in with a cavalier 31 at the end to set Grays a reasonable target, on a pitch of dubious quality.

Stanford won by 42 runs

Essex Sunday League

Stanford 185ao  (36.4 overs)                          Horndon 191-3  (30.3 overs)

Ross Poulton 98                                            Liam Hubbard  85

With the chance of pipping Pegasus and Corringham to the Division 1 (East) title, Horndon made no slip-ups as they eased their way to a comfortable win over their nearest neighbours. Stanford were indebted to a fine innings from Ross Poulton (98), following a disastrous start. The first three batsmen were back in the hutch with only a single on the board! Poulton added 130 for the 4th wicket with Jon Fuller (27) playing the supporting role. After this pair departed, there was another flurry of wickets and it was left to opening bowlers Greg Barr and Danny Copp with 20 apiece to set the visitors a total to chase.

Horndon made light of the 186 they needed to win. Liam Hubbard (85) was in excellent form until he suffered an unnecessary run-out. However, Azbrow (34no) ensured there were no further alarms as Horndon cantered home by 7 wickets
