Stanford le Hope CC – Match Reports 1st July 2006

Shepherd Neame League

Buckhurst Hill 226ao                               Stanford 152ao

M. Mulla 77, S.Allen 33                                Bill Poskitt Jnr 47, Duncan Page 36

Bill Poskitt Jnr 6-67                                         M.Mulla 7-35

Stanford were, as they say, ‘Mullared’ at The Rec on Saturday. Having lost Robert Page to injury the previous night, with Dion Bryant still unfit and others in the club afflicted by the masochistic desire to watch another painful England Cup exit, the team was weakened. Hill elected to bat, and opener Mulla set up a decent total as he coasted to 77. Allen (35) chipped in, as did several others, before Bill Poskitt Jnr     (6-67) wrapped up the innings following another lengthy spell.

It was Poskitt (49) who ensured Stanford made a decent start, joining Duncan Page (36) in a 2nd wicket stand that boosted the total to 111. However, at this point, having rested suitably, Mulla rejoined the party. He got rid of both Page and Poskitt and then whipped out the tail with some deadly accurate deliveries, to finish with 7-35, all of his victims having been bowled. The last eight wickets fell for a paltry 34, including four ducks. Perhaps the England news distracted some of the batsmen, but it was a fairly dismal Stanford dressing room after the game. Buckhurst Hill won by 74 runs.

Stanford II  84ao                            Hadleigh & Thundersley 88-2

A game and a weekend that Stanford will want to quickly forget. 1st team call-ups and poor availability meant that they travelled up the A13 with only 8 men. They did the best they could in the circumstances, with Sean Barker (29) top scoring in an all out total of 84. Daryl Woodford picked up both wickets to fall as Hadleigh coasted to an 8 wicket win.

Stanford 0 points  H & T 20 points

Fortunately for Stanford, the 3rds and 4ths had no League games at the weekend.

Essex Sunday League East Division July 2nd 2006

Pegasus & Corringham C.C. v Stanford le Hope C.C.

SLHCC 224-8 (40 overs)       P&CC.C. 227-8 (39.5 overs)
Lee Knight 119 not out           Hymas 73, Cain 40

Pegs won this closely fought and entertaining local derby with a ball to spare. Stanford skipper, Lee Knight (119no) led from the front with a wonderful effort. He shepherded the innings through, after Ross Poulton (22) and Jon Fuller (26) had made useful early contributions. He also shared a 52 run partnership with his dad, Mark (17) for the 5th wicket, which saw Stanford post a challenging total. Daryl Hymas (3-61) was the most successful home bowler.

Pegasus made a great start to the chase and it was Hymas (77) who led the way. With Paul Bennett (38) also chipping in, it seemed the homesters would canter to the win. However, Greg Barr (3-52) and Kevin Smith (2-41) worked their way through the middle-order to set up a tense finish. It was Cain (40no) who held his nerve to clinch an exciting win in a game that was a credit to both sides.

Pegasus (18 points)  beat Stanford (7 points) by 2 wickets.
