4-57 Stanford got back to winning
ways with the comprehensive defeat of Woodford Green. Having elected to bat,
Stanford suffered an early setback, when father and son combo, Duncan and Robert
Page, were dismissed cheaply. Dion Bryant (77) and Bill Poskitt Jnr (68), soon
repaired the damage as they shared a 122 run partnership for the 3rd
wicket. Poskitt carried on the good work with Lee Knight (44), as their 64 run
partnership for the 4th wicket, boosted the total over the 200 mark.
Things got a bit messy in the search for quick runs from the last few overs as
Kabir Ali (4-57) kept the ball straight. Despite the tumble of wickets, Stanford
were well satisfied with their 248 total. As it happens, the Stanford score was more than enough. Ali (35) showed some defiance at the top of the order, but every Stanford bowler had some success as wickets tumbled regularly. A stand of 40 for the 7th wicket between Martin (32) and Patel (29), held up proceedings temporarily, before Poskitt Jnr (3-20) finished things off. Stanford won by 73 runs Stanford 20 points Woodford Green 6 points Woodford Green II

Stanford II 207-5 (36.5 overs) A. Malcolm 72 Jacob Tarlinton 62, Sam Spooner 64no
Ross Poulton 45no, P.
Davies 3-38 Stanford 2nds scampered to
victory by 5 wickets, as they chased down Woodford Green’s 201 total in under
37 overs. The start had not been a great one however, as Davies (3-36) picked up
quick wickets to leave Stanford reeling at 12-3. However, opener Jacob Tarlinton
(62) and all-rounder Sam Spooner (64no) set about rebuilding the innings with a
century partnership. A couple more wickets fell before Spooner was joined by
Ross Poulton (45no), who ended the match with a huge six. Earlier, the Stanford bowling had rather let Green off the hook. Their cause was not helped by Stanford fielders picking up a catalogue of injuries. John Fuller (foot), Kevin Smith and John Harris (both hand injuries), all had to leave the field for treatment and were hampered on their return. Malcolm (72) took advantage of the confusion to boost the total over the 200 mark. Daryl Woodford. Tarlinton and Spooner all picked up a couple of wickets. Stanford won by 5 wickets. 266-7
Ongar III 187ao Dennis Wheatley 89, Geoff Lake 83, M. Suker 42, I Groves 36 B. Overy 5-89
Luke Dennis 4-24 The Stanford top order were
in fine form as they made their visitors swelter with little return at the
Billet. Skipper Geoff Lake led the way with a resolute 83. His opening partner,
Peter Victory (34) helped him add 86 for the first wicket. Lake was then joined
by Dennis Wheatley (89), who really deserved a ton, as their 138 run partnership
powered the thirds over the 200 mark. Wickets tumbled in the chase for runs and
Overy (5-89) benefited as his second spell brought some dividends. 266 was going to be a difficult target, despite the swiftness of the Billet outfield. Ongar however, made a decent start against Stanford’s quicker bowlers. Ongars first four, Suker (42), Ginnaw (26), R. Groves (20) and I Groves (36), all put runs on the board. With the score at 112-2, skipper Lake had to make changes. He took all the pace off the ball by bringing himself and young off-spinner Luke Dennis into the attack. Dennis dismissed the dangerous Suker and the Ongar innings lost it’s way. Lake picked up a pair and Dennis returned an excellent 4-24 as Stanford wrapped up a 79 run win. Upminster V 118-3 Paul Cross 34, J. O’Dowd
4-46 P Davies 61no, M. DeCruz
36no Stanford chose to bat
against the runaway league leaders and seemed to be making a good fist of
things, as Colin Yeomans (20) and Arthur Ramdial (17) added 47 for the first
wicket against some accurate and pacey bowling. However, things began to go pear
shaped when left-arm spinner O’Dowd joined the attack. He had all the batsmen
in trouble as he picked up 4-46. Styanford had hopes of picking up a couple of
batting points as Paul Cross (36no) landed some lusty blows, but he ran out of
partners with 8 runs still needed. Upminster didn’t have things all their own way, as they lost three cheap wickets to Peter Ward (2-53) and Yeomans (1-24). However, they missed a few chances after that, and opener Davies (61no) and no5 DeCruz (36no) took full advantage to guide the leaders safely home by 7 wickets. Stanford IV 1 point
