Stanford
le Hope C.C. – Match Reports 8th July 2006 Shepherd Neame League
Stanford 215ao (50.2 overs)
Old Southendians 218-3
(49.4 overs) Bill Poskitt Jnr 42, Duncan Page 30 Aaron Lucas 85no, Chris Bunce 68 John James 5-49 Styanford were unable to prevent Old Southendians from pulling further away from them at the top of the table. The home team were unable to capitalise on a decent start. Peter Gray made 26 and Bill Poskitt Jnr dropped anchor to make a patient 42. His 66 run partnership for the 2nd wicket with the returning Dion Bryant (28) was the best of the innings. From a healthy 97-1, the innings suddenly lost it’s way, three wickets falling for the addition of a single run, as the Old Boys bowlers took control. Dennis (3-57), did the initial damage, but it was John James (5-49) who caused carnage in the middle order. Stanford had the experienced head of Duncan Page (30) to thank, as he shepherded the tail to clinch maximum batting points. Old Southendians had no real difficulties in chasing down the total, although they took nearly their full complement of overs to get there. A couple of early wickets brought together Aaron Lucas (85no) and skipper Chris Bunce (68) who added 146 for the 3rd wicket to effectively seal a 7 wicket win. Stanford 9 poiints Old Southendians 18 points Old Southendians II 124ao (47.1 overs)
Stanford II 126-7 (36.5
overs) K.Johnson 30no, Kevin Smith 4-53 Ross Poulton 49, Dean Hitchcock 40 A.
Sanders 4-49 Batting was tough at Southchurch Park. The home team limped to 124 all out from nearly 50 overs. The Stanford bowlers had a real stranglehold on the game as Kevin Smith (4-53) and Daryl Woodford (1-15) removed the top order. There was some resistance from Davis (24) and Ward (28), but wickets continued to fall steadily as Ross Poulton (2-24) and Chopper Truong (2-22) worked their way through the order, aided by some excellent fielding, especially by Dean Hitchcock who picked up 4 smart catches. Johnson (30no) did his best to grab his side a couple of batting points, but they fell agonisingly short. Stanford seemed to be going along nicely as Poulton (49) and Hitchcock (40) added 72 for the 2nd wicket. At 85-1, the job was almost complete, but Sanders (4-49) had other ideas Stanford lost 6 wickets for the addition of only 28 runs, before Matthew Page (16no) steered them home. Stanford won by 3 wickets. Stanford II 18 points Old Southendians II 3 points Stanford III

overs) Jon Fuller 83, Neil Fuller 50 M.Baker 61no, O.Wagstaff 61, G Davison 40 Geoff Lake 38, G.Davison 5-43 Jon Fuller 3-70 On an excellent batting wicket, Stanford put together a more than decent total. Jon Fuller (83) batted superbly, as he shared half-century partnerships with his son Neil Fuller (50) and skipper Geoff Lake (38). Hadleigh skipper Geoff Davison tempted some of the lower order batsmen to pick up 5-43. It was also Davison (40) who got the home run chase off to a good start He and Wagstaff (61) added 85 for the first wicket. Jon Fuller (3-70) was brought into the attack with some success, but Baker (61no) ensured there were no further alarms as Hadleigh galloped to a 6 wicket win. (39.3 overs) B.King 55, Ken Sandeman 59no Colin Yeomans 169, Neil Doherty 31 John Harris 3-69, Colin Yeomans 3-38 Ken
Sandeman 3-42 Knowing Stanford’s record in recent years, Leigh on Sea must have been confident that 244 was well beyond their run-chasing capabilities. However, they reckoned without taking into account Stanford’s new secret weapon. Colin Yeomans blasted his way to an incredible 169 – a new 4th team record and what is thought to be the 4th highest score ever registered for the club. He and stand-in skipper Neil Doherty (31) added 127 for the 3rd wicket. After Doherty went, Yeomans played a lone hand, until, dramatically, he went to a superb diving catch by Patel, with Stanford 11 short of victory. Leigh sensed a chance, especially with Ken Sandeman (3-42) keeping a tight rein on things. Two more wickets fell with no further addition to the score, but young Harry Cook kept Sandeman at bay, whilst John Harris coolly hit 3 boundaries and clinched an exciting win. Earlier, Leigh had racked up an impressive total, thanks to Sandeman (59no), King (55) and Patel (31). Harris (3-69) stuck at his task with the ball, whilst Yeomans (3-38) had exerted some control after the visitors had made a blistering start. John Youngman (2-21) also picked up his first wickets for the club as Stanford 4ths continued to impress. Stanford 4ths won by 2 wickets. Stanford 18 points
