Match Reports week ending 28th of May 2006
Stanford’s
Shepherd Neame League programme was wiped out by the unseasonable weather. The
only team to take the field were the 3rds, who managed a few overs before the
rain forced them off for good.
Essex Sunday League
Stanford 178 – 9
(40 overs)
Shenfield 150ao (37 overs) Ross Poulton 60, Dion Bryant 52 John Klieber 105, Dion Bryant 4-20
Gary Sanderson 3-25, Sam Spooner 2-13 On a damp Stanford Recreation ground, the home team had to work hard and patiently to accumulate a reasonable score from their 40 overs, having been inserted by the Shenfield skipper. The final total was mainly due to the combined efforts of Ross Poulton (60) and Dion Bryant (52), who added 79 for the 3rd wicket. Whilst the Stanford boys were satisfied with their work, the 178 they had posted began to look well short of a winning total, as Shenfield opener John Klieber (105), set about the chase. He manoeuvred his side to 136-3, despite a fine effort from Gary Sanderson (3-25), who claimed all of the wickets to fall in an unchanged opening spell. Stanford could have been forgiven if they had let their heads drop, but due credit to young skipper Lee Knight, who kept them going. It was the introduction of Bryant that proved the turning point. Klieber became his first victim and from that point the Shenfield innings unravelled. In combination with off-spinner Sam Spooner (2-13), Bryant decimated the rest of the batting as the visitors lost their last 7 wickets for the addition of only 14 runs, as Stanford clinched an unlikely 28 run victory. Stanford 18 points
Shenfield 6 points
Stanford’s Under 16 Matchplay team visited Woodford Wells on Monday and put on a good display in the field, dismissing the home team for 150. This was mainly due to an excellent showing from Ian Sanderson (5-17). Unfortunately, the heavens opened during the tea interval and prevented any conclusion being reached.
