Ongar elected to bat and lost a couple of quick wickets before David Coles (69) and Steve Adcock (65) steadied things, with a century standard for the 3rd wicket. However, the introduction of Matt Lewis (4-44) changed the complexion of the game back in Stanford’s favour, as he removed both men and then kept tight rein on the rest of the batting. Ultimately Ongar would have been disappointed to only register 230 on a good batting track with a quick outfield. The visitors had some early success as they removed Duncan Page early in the reply. This brought his son Robert to the crease and he proceeded to give the visiting bowling a pasting. Together with Bill Poskitt Jnr (83), who continues his rich vein of form, Page put on 146 for the 2nd wicket, before going on to secure a richly deserved personal century. A couple of quick wickets at the end, failed to interrupt Stanford’s serene progress to a 5 wicket win. Stanford 18 points Ongar 10 points Stanford

38no Stanford 2nds moved back into 2nd position in their league, with a comfortable win over 9 man Ongar. Having elected to bat, Skipper Robert Pearn (31) gave Stanford an excellent start as he added 72 for the first wicket with fellow opener Jacob Tarlinton (49). Keeper Dean Hitchcock (78) then dominated proceedings, enjoying excellent support from young Sean Barker (38no), enabling Stanford to declare after only 44 overs. Ross Austen (3-21) blasted out the first 3 Ongar men and with Daryl Woodford also picking up an early wicket, Ongar were struggling at 32-4. However, Neal (70) batted sensibly and was well supported by Jackson (31), Braining (29) and Polley (23no) at the bottom of the order, before Sam Spooner and Tarlinton wrapped things up with a couple of wickets apiece. Stanford won by 53 runs. Stanford II 20 points Ongar II 5 points Orsett III 197-9 Stan III 198-3M. Colburn 58, P.Buttress 56 Geoff Lake 60no, Colin Yeomans 56, Colin Yeomans 4-64, Luke

Peter Victory 37 Having been inserted, Orsett 3rds began superbly well, with Colburn (58) and Buttress (56) adding a century for the first wicket against Stanford’s seam attack. Super bowling by leg-spinner Colin Yeomans (4-64) pegged them back and with young off-spinner Luke Dennis (2-29) also striking, the home team would have been disappointed to be left 3 runs short of maximum batting points at the end of their 52 overs. Stanford had rushed through their overs in under two and three quarter hours and had no difficulties overhauling the total. Skipper Geoff Lake (60no), anchored the innings through, adding 45 for the first wicket with Peter Victory (37), before being joined in a match winning partnership of 119 with that man Yeomans (56), to register a comfortable 7 wicket victory. 3-39 Stanford skipper Adrian Page’s decision to bat looked to have back-fired dismally, as his team slumped to 39-6, against the bowling of David Kemp (4-46) and James Page (3-39). However, debutant Kieron Parkes (37) and Colin Knight (27) added 66 for the 7th wicket, before the tail, in the shape of colts Paul Cross (17), Jon Barr (13no) and Laura Knight (14) brought hope and respectability to matters. Orsett began their reply solidly, with Peters (29) and Harding (16) putting on a half-century partnership for the 1st wicket. Essex U17 Laura Knight and Page both picked up a couple of wickets, but this only brought Orsett youngster Glen Peacey to the crease. He kept his cool admirably to score 65no and steer his side to a useful win by 5 wickets. Stanford IV 6 points Orsett IV 18 points |
