le Hope Match Reports – 6th & 7th May 06 Friendly FixturesStanford 217 – 8 (40
overs)
Buckhurst Hill 169 – 6 (30.5 overs) Peter Gray 44, Dion Bryant 40, Jamie Allen 76no, John Watts 38no Matt Lewis 39 Following early exits from the League Cup, Stanford met Buckhurst Hill in a match that eventually succumbed to the poor weather. At the time, it was evenly poised, as Jamie Allen (76no) and John Watts (38no), were in the middle of a partnership which had seen 67 added for the 7th wicket. With just under 50 needed and 10 overs remaining, the match was set for an exciting finish, when rain halted proceedings. Stanford had posted 217-8 from their full 40 overs, with solid contributions from Peter Gray (44), Dion Bryant (40) and Matt Lewis (39). The latter two knocks were remarkable, in that all but 5 of the 79 runs they scored came in boundaries! Mughal (2-18) was the pick of the visiting bowlers. Hill’s reply was marked by the regular tumble of wickets, with Bryant picking up a couple early on to add to his runs. Stanford were coasting as the visitors limped to 102-6, before Allen and Watts swung the match to just about evens. Match abandoned – rain. Buckhurst Hill II
136ao (27.2 overs)
Stanford II 116 – 9 (33.5
overs) S.Managher 48 Dennis Wheatley 30 The reciprocal 2nd team fixture ended in some confusion as conditions became farcical. Stanford No 11, John Harris was not prepared to risk further injury after pulling up whilst bowling and the teams came off with the rain pouring down. The general consensus was that the match was abandoned as a draw! Hill had managed to make 136 from 27 of their allotted 40 overs, mainly thanks to a steady 48 from Managhar. Wickets were shared amongst the visiting bowling, with Kevin Smith,’Chopper’ Truong, Jacob Tarlington and run-outs accounting for a couple each. Stanford’s reply was as
stodgy as the wicket. Peter Victory and Stuart Surridge were the only members of
the top order to make double figures as the Hill bowlers shared the spoils. It
was an 8th wicket stand between Dennis Wheatley (30) and Daryl
Woodford (10) that brought Stanford within striking distance before the weather
closed in. At least both sides managed some practice before the serious stuff
gets underway next week. Match abandoned – rain. Sunday friendly Stanford 150ao
South Fambridge 70ao Dean Hitchcock 36 Greg Barr 25 Greg Barr 5-23 Wayne Simmons 20 A low, skiddy wicket made things difficult for the batsmen in this Sunday friendly. Having elected to bat, Stanford struggled to an all out total of 150, with Dean Hitchcock (36), Greg Barr (25) and Wayne Simmons (20) the main contributors. Barr kept up the good work with the ball as the visitors failed to come to terms with the conditions at all. He skittled the top order with some straight medium pace to see Stanford coast to an 80 run victory. |
