Stanford le Hope CC – Match Reports 24th June 2006

Shepherd Neame League

Harold Wood  306-5  (52 overs)                          Stanford  225-6  (53 0vers)

Srinivas Mangalapally 135, Nadim Sohail 90            Jacob Tarlinton 106no

Bill Poskitt Jnr 3-97                                                     Peter Gray 30, J.Smith 3-64

Harold Wood posted a massive total to halt Stanford’s charge at the top of the table. Wood openers Mangalapally (135) and Sohail (90), added 224 for the first wicket in only 31 overs as the Stanford bowlers toiled on a flat track. Fortunately, Wood slowed down over the last 20, as Bill Poskitt Jnr (3-97), bowled a long spell, to exert a measure of control.

Stanford’s top batsmen seemed daunted by the task in front of them and struggled against some tight bowling from Smith (3-64). They slumped to 91-6 from 31 overs at one point, clearly missing the influence of their Aussie Dion Bryant. His replacement from the 2nd team, Jacob Tarlinton (106no) proved a more than adequate stand-in, as he produced an innings of quality to save the game. He was joined by Peter Gray (30no) in an undefeated 7th wicket partnership of 134, which shut out Wood and secured maximum batting points. Match Drawn.

Chris Clarke-Irons 5-25, Stuart Ayres 3-18                    M.Blerkom 62no

This top of the table clash proved to be a one-sided affair. Having lost their opening bowler and premier batsmen to the 1st XI and with several other absences, Stanford  were no match for an on-form Basildon side. Stuart Ayres (3-18) did the early damage, but Stanford were finished of by Chris Clarke-Irons (5-25), as none of their batsman made more than 12. Basildon strolled to a 10 wicket win, thanks to a blitzing innings from Blerkom (62no), in only 13.2 overs. Basildon won by 10 wickets.

Adam Stebbing 20, A.Sanders 3-43                 Jon Fuller 3-18

M.Bunce 3-22

Stanford’s thirds just lost out in this closely fought contest, played in excellent spirit. The home team scraped together 146, against some tight bowling from Bunce (3-25) and Sanders (3-43). They had skipper Geoff Lake (31) to thank for holding the top order together and a decent little stand between two colts, James Drain (27) and Adam Stebbing (20no) for boosting the total.

Old Southendians reply was also a battle, particularly when Jon Fuller (3-18) was introduced into the attack. McDonald 37, Ahmed (21) and Clift (35) all grafted away as the Old Boys crept home. Old Southendians won by 3 wickets.

Old Southendians IV  90ao (34.2 overs)              Stanford IV 95-3  (19 overs)

Laura Knight 3-22, Colin Yeomans 3-9               Colin Yeomans 60no

Stanford’s 4th string celebrated a second win of the season in comfortable style. Laura Knight (3-22), making her senior debut following on from her success in the Essex Ladies U17 squad, decimated the Old Southendians top-order with a fine display of seam bowling. With Colin Yeomans (3-9) totally bamboozling the rest of the batting with his leg-spin, the Old Boys subsided quickly. Yeomans (60), continued his good form with the bat as Stanford raced to the win with 7 wickets in hand.
