Poulton 3-61 Another comfortable win for Stanford was marred by a hamstring injury to Aussie all-rounder Dion Bryant, as he searched for his 5th wicket of the game. With Matt Lewis also unavailable next week, it leaves the seam attack looking a little thin on the ground, but opens the way for Greg Barr, who has been leading the seconds attack well, to make an impression in the higher standard. In fact, this was a solid team performance. It began with an opening partnership of 62, between Peter Gray (34) and Robert Page (35). The foundations were built upon by all the rest of the team making double figure scores, with notable contributions from Bill Poskitt Jnr (43) and Ross Poulton (42). Skipper Michael Gray declared a couple of overs early, which proved to be a crucial decision. Old Brentwoods lost Laurie Bell, their most prolific scorer, second ball to a skied top-edge off Bryant, which was pouched by keeper Peter Gray. With him went the Old Boys best chance of over-hauling the Stanford total. Bryant (4-38) continued to work his way through the top order, until his unfortunate injury, with only Northwood (40) offering much resistance. It was a 6th wicket stand of 89, between Sarwar (57) and Hussain (30), that halted Stanford’s progress. The introduction of Stanford’s second left arm spinner, Poskitt Jnr (3-28), to accompany Poulton (3-61), clinched the victory, with the visitors scrambling desperately for an extra pair of batting points. Stanford won by 50 runs with 2.2 overs remaining. Stanford 20 points Old Brentwoods 6 points Stanford II

Hollington 49 Stanford 2nds slipped to their first defeat of the season, although, having posted 264, they were wondering how it had happened. In truth, the Old Brentwoods track was a batting paradise and the outfield very slick and 260 was probably only worth just over 200 – a reasonable target. Stanford had batted well however, with Jacob Tarlinton following on from last week’s ton with an excellent 79. He added 118 for the first wicket with Rob Pearn (39), before another decent partnership, this time for 72 for the 6th wicket , between Clive Ballard (39no) and Chopper Truong (36no) allowe skipper Neelay Patel to declare. Stanford’s bowlers toiled away with little joy as the Old Boys began the chase. 65 for the first wicket, 48 for the 2nd and 92 for the 3rd, before Merryweather (83no) coasted the home side to a comfortable win by 7 wickets., as he and Ian Johnson (22no) added an undefeated half-century partnership for the 4th wicket. The other main Brents contributions came from Dave Johnson (74) and Hollington (49). Stanford II 9 points Old Brentwoods II 18 points Old Brentwoods III

overs) I. Sedewick 51, F. Rylam 52no Mark Knight 74, Geoff Lake 71no Stuart McInnes 4-42 Stanford Thirds romped to a nine-wicket win, thanks to a splendid opening stand of 163, between skipper Geoff Lake (71no) and Mark Knight (74). They killed off any hopes that the Old Boys may have had of defending their 181 total. Earlier, only Sedewick (51) and Miller (38) of the higher Old Brentwood’s batting managed to hold out against a fine spell from Stuart McInnes (4-41). In fact it took a defiant knock from no9 Rylam (52no) to boost the home total to a defendable level, but all in vain once Lake and Knight got to grips with the game. 4-31 Stanford’s 4th string continue to progress. Following last week’s win, they managed to post a decent total, despite not being able to defend it. Bill Poskitt Snr and Arthur Ramdial again gave them a steady start, but a flurry of wickets saw them slump to 60-6, as Will Ashby (4-31) and Andy Fryd (4-29), got amongst the higher order. A strong stand of 66 between Neil Doherty (40) and Colin Dixon (25) restored some order and then Adrian Page (46) took control as he guided the team close to the 200 mark. Unfortunately, Page picked up an elbow injury after picking up the first wicket, which curtailed his bowling. Without his cutting edge, Stanford struggled to contain the visitors, despite Peter Ward’s manful 14 overs. A stand of 141, between the big-hitting Ian Daws (88) and a somewhat more introspective Alan Houston (60no) virtually clinched the game, although Doherty’s late pair of wickets grabbed Stanford a valuable bowling point to take them out of bottom spot. Stanford 152ao (39 overs) A.Lucas 91, C.Sawyer 66 Mark Knight 28, James Drain 25 A considerably weakened Stanford side took the field against Old Southendians, but made a decent start thanks to some tight bowling from John Harris (2-38). However, Sawyer (66) joined Old Boys skipper Lucas (91) in a big century stand that put the home team on the back foot as they peppered the boundary. Stanford’s reply was shaky as they lost 3 quick wickets. Opener Mark Knight (28) was resolutely defiant as he battled away for nearly 30 overs. He was well supported by youngsters James Drain (25) and Daryl Woodford and some lusty blows from U15 Ian Sanderson secured a valuable extra batting point. However, Stanford slumped to a 85 run first defeat of the year. Stanford 5 points Old Southendians 18 points
