le Hope C.C. - Match reports for 13th /14th May 2006 Shepherd Neame Essex League
Stanford
250 – 4 dec (48 overs) Woodford Green 175
all out (53.5 overs) Dion Bryant 84, Matt Lewis 40, K Ali 65, Y Khushi 42, Ross Poulton 34 Bill Poskitt Jnr 3 – 15 Stanford just clinched this match from the penultimate ball when Matt Lewis bowled the visiting No11, Spickett, when it looked likely that the visitors would frustrate them. Green were facing an uphill battle when they came to bat, after Stanford had won the toss and elected to bat. There were solid contributions throughout the order, but Dion Bryant’s 84 was outstanding as he put together half-century stands with Bill Poskitt Jnr (!7) and Ross Poulton (34no). The Stanford innings was closed early by skipper Michael Gray, after Matt Lewis (40no) had launched a furious assault on the visitors bowling to push Stanford to the 250 mark. The visitor’s reply began steadily, as Ali (65) and his rather more subdued partner Carr (8) added 52 for the first wicket. Green progressed steadily as Khushi (42) joined Ali. At 123 – 2, they looked as though they had a reasonable chance. However, Lewis removed Ali and Gray then turned to his spinners. Poulton grabbed a couple of wickets, and Poskitt (3-15), as Stanford regained control. With overs running out, and The Woodford tail holding
them up, it was the pace of Lewis that finally clinched the match.
Stanford won by 75 runs. SLHCC 20 points, Woodford Green 4 points SLHCC 2nd XI

Woodford Green 113 all out (33.2 overs) S Barker 50 K Smith 3 – 30 Stanford’s second string struggled to an all out total of 157, against some accurate bowling from Woodford Green. At one point, they barely looked as if the would get to the century mark, As Roberts (3-59), Johnson (3-21) and Shirley (2-15) established a firm grip. However, Stanford’s No 8, Sean Barker, played an excellent innings. He added 42 for the 7th wicket with Wayne Simmons (23) and a further 34 for the 9th with Greg Barr (17), which added to Green’s generous donation of 36 extras, gave Stanford a reasonable total to defend. Barr and James Drain, removed both Green openers with no runs on the board, but the next three men in all contributed scores in the 20’s, to give the home team a chance. Kevin Smith (3-30) broke the middle-order resistance and spinner Sam Spooner (2-6), continued the good work. Barr returned to pick up the final wicket as Stanford eased home with relative comfort. Stanford won by 44 runs. Stanford II 20 points, Woodford Green 4 points
Ongar 167 – 8 ( 52 overs
)
Stanford III 81 all out ( 40 overs ) M Suker 31, Ian Sanderson 3 – 15 I Groves 3 – 16 Stanford were pleased with a bowling performance that restricted the hosts to 167-8 from their full allotment of overs. U15 Ian Sanderson (3-15) was the pick of the attack, but there was plenty of support, especially from Robert East (2-27). All the Ongar batsmen struggled, with Suker’s 31 being the top score. Stanford’s reply bagan
comfortably enough, with the top 4 batsmen all getting into double figures. At
65-2, they felt they were in a good position, but there were five ducks amongst
the next seven batsmen and the innings crumbled away.. The Ongar bowlers shared
the spoils, with Groves (3-16) the chief destroyer. Ongar won by 86 runs. Ongar 20 points, Stanford III 3 points Upminster V 260 – 1 (37

Stanford IV 30 all out (10.5 overs) E Bussey 158no, J Margetts 65no B Langston 3 – 0, K Govani 3 – 4, G Chiverton 3 – 12 Oh dear – as the saying goes. Having chased leather all afternoon, as young opener Eliot Bussey smacked a brilliant, unbeaten 158, sharing stands of 122 with Davies (22) and 138 with John Margetts (65no), Stanford were then rolled over in only 10.5 overs. Openers Chiverton and Govani, both picked up 3 cheap wickets, but the highlights for the visitors came later. Brother and sister colts, Ben and Beth Langton combined to bury Stanford. Ben picked up a hat trick in his only over, whilst Beth accounted for the last wicket as she picked up Paul Cross (16), the only Stanford man to make double figures. Upminster won by 230 runs. Upminster 20 points, Stanford IV 0 points Essex Sunday League
Belhus 116-9 (40 overs) Stanford 118-5Martin Gilbert 51, Ross Poulton 3-10 Lee Knight 29, Ross Poulton 29, Dion Bryant 2-7, Sam Spooner 2-27 Greg Barr 21 Stanford could only muster 9 men for this local derby, but it proved to be enough. It was fortunate for them in the field, that the outfield was so long, as chasing the ball may have proved difficult! Belhus struggled to make 116-9 from their 40 overs, with Martin Gilbert (51) making the only score of note. Ross Poulton (3-10) and Dion Bryant (2-7) kept the home team really quiet and Sam Spooner (2-27) also chipped in. Stanford’s run chase was efficient rather than spectacular, With Lee Knigh (29), Poulton (29) and Greg Barr (21) all making telling contributions. Stanford won by 3 wickets Essex Under 16 match

Hornchurch 170 – 8 (40 overs) Alex Karkoski 80, James Drain 35 David Sullivan 48no, John Wade 30 Adam Clements 2-12, David Sullivan 2-26 Alex Karkoski 2-17, James Drain 2-43 Billy Gordon 2-31 Stanford just held on in this exciting encounter that was a credit to both clubs. Adam Clements (2-12) and David Sullivan 2-43) had rocked Stanford with tight opening spells and early wickets. Stanford recovered thanks to a superb 80 from Alex Karkoski, who was well supported by James Drain (35) and Harry Morgan-James (29). Billy Gordon (2-31) was the other main wicket taker for the home side. The Hornchurch reply began steadily, with Wade (30) batting steadily at the top of the order. It was Karkoski (2-17) who again made a telling contribution, stifling the run rate along with Morgan James (1-23). However, David Sullivan (48no), kept his side within striking distance as the tension mounted. However, Stanford openers Drain and Ian Sanderson, kept their nerve, bowling Yorker length balls to deny Upminster the chance of a boundary to clinch a fine win. Stanford won by 7 runs. |
