B Palmer 37no, M Luthra 37, K Smith 2-28

180-4 (22.2 overs)

Stanford's traditional season opening fixture against Herongate was an entertaining affair.

Stanford's Lee Knight won the toss and chose to bowl first. this proved to be a good choice as the pitch seemed to be slow and hard to score on. He commented post match that he was "Impressed with the teams all-round performance, with some great ground fielding, in particular the excellently athletic run out by John Harris."

Herongate struggled to 177 from their 40 overs, Kevin Smith being the most successful bowler with 2-28. Palmer and Luthra stood out with the bat for Herongate.

Stanford's reply was swift. James Drain hit a half ton and Michael Gray batted well for his 40, Ross Poulton dazzled with a quick fire 43 including some audacious reverse sweeps to bring Stanford home in the 23rd over with a 6 to win the game.
