The
2nd Square is officially opened – on time!

Friday 25th April, Grahame Thomas from the Cory
Environmental Trust in Thurrock officially opened the new
second cricket square at Stanford Recreation Ground.
It was an historic occasion for SLHCC as we have always
dreamt of all four of our Saturday league sides playing
their home matches at Stanford Rec. This can now
become reality from this season due to the tremendous
generosity of the Cory Trust.

The
Trust contributed nearly £19,000 towards the laying of the
square and the purchasing of new sight screens.
Careful preparatory work has been undertaken over the past
year and despite some testing weather conditions the square
is ready for use.

The
generosity of the Cory Trust towards sport in the local area
is unsurpassed. With the assistance of its funding,
sports men and women of all ages are able to enjoy
facilities at Stanford Rec that would not have been
available via the normal channels of monetary assistance.

SLHCC’s
cricketers now look forward to a successful 2008 season
using their new facilities thanks to the generosity of the
Cory Trust, for which SLHCC is extremely grateful.

Everything
remains on course for the second square to be used from May
2008 onwards. Naturally for this to become reality we
will need two essential ingredients:-
1.
A
fairly mild winter with good weather particularly in March.
2.
Intensive
work will need to be carried out in the couple of months
prior to its first use to ensure the square is safe to use.

2nd square has been re-seeded and re-dressed in
the past week. Hopefully with the recent rain it should see
much growth in the coming weeks

Work
on the Second Square at The Rec has started!
An
historic occasion for SLHCC as Pearl Limited arrived to mark
out the 2nd square at Stanford Rec.
The
area has been fenced in for safety and security reasons
prior to the first holes being dug out on Monday (26th).
Work will continue all next week as the square is excavated,
filled will loam etc and then the grass sowed.
Overall
it will take 8-12 months to get the square ready for the
2008 season.
If
you are passing through The Rec. please keep an eye on that
area as it is exposed.
