Match Week Five

SLHCC 1st XI 129 - 0 v Belhus CC 1st XI 128 all out
Alex Ellis 65* Peter Gray 49*   Ross Poulton 5-19 Harry Maher 3-48

Stanford cruised to a comfortable victory against their near neighbours. Openers Alex Ellis (65no) and Peter Gray (49no) chased down a fairly meagre score of 128 without really breaking sweat, the ten wicket win keeping the home side’s 100% record intact.

Earlier, the Belhus top order were put under pressure by Harry Maher (3-48), who bowled with sustained hostility throughout and Kevin Smith (1- 52). Mat Lewis (35) looked to repair the damage with skipper Richard Day (23). However, it was Stanford skipper Ross Poulton who swept away the final vestiges of resistance with a return of 5-19 as Belhus crumbled.

SLHCC 2nd XI 236 - 9 v Belhus 2nd XI 237 - 3
Ian Rudder 79 Josh Reid 43   Paul Reynolds 2-63 Josh Reid 1-49

Stanford 2nds had it much tougher than the 1sts as they came up against an in-form Belhus 2nds at North Stifford. At 54-4, Stanford appeared to be struggling, but Ian Rudder (79) steadied the innings brilliantly. He enjoyed good support from Josh Reid as they added 65 for the 5th wicket and then took responsibility to nurse the lower order along to the relative safety of 236-9 declared. Chris Baker was the star with the ball for the home side, creating problems all afternoon as he took 5-62.

Stanford picked up 3 wickets as Belhus began their reply. However, any thoughts of pushing on for a win were dashed by a splendid, unbeaten partnership of 176, between Gavin Jeffries (103no) and Nick Marns (93no). They proved to be a class apart as they gave away nothing to the visitors, clinching a comfortable 7 wicket win.

SLHCC 4th XI 257 - 5 dec v Brentwood 6th XI 116 all out
Sam Sewell 108 Brett Ingram 34*   Colin Knight 2-17 Laura Knight 2-22

Stanford 4ths will be suffering from nose-bleeds if they continue like this! The perennial whipping boys of the bottom division are showing some teeth! 47 for the first wicket between Neil Doherty (23) and Colin Knight (20), set the tone, but the innings of the game was a cavalier maiden ton by U15 Sam Sewell (108), who lashed the ball to all parts. He got great support from the ever reliable Ryan Smith (16) as they added 64 for the 4th wicket and Brett Ingram (34no) as they took the score over the 200 mark. John Youngman (34no) joined in the fun to take the score over 250.

Brentwood, who had been enjoying the season, were daunted by the large total, especially when Laura Knight (2-22) struck early. Youngster Shreyas Moorty (40) played a defiant innings at the top of the order, but got little support. Colin Knight picked up a couple and the ground fielding and catching were again splendid, two victims coming from direct-hit run-outs. Andy Freeman got one of the run-outs as well as three catches in the outfield.
