Match Week Twelve

SLHCC 1st XI 200 - 8 v West Essex 1st XI 202 - 8
Harry Maher 103* Kevin Smith 20   Sam Spooner 4 - 41 Ross Poulton 2 - 52

After losing the toss and being inserted on a damp, seaming track the Stanford opening batsmen did well in reaching 32 for 0 until the 1st wicket fell when Dave Noble fell to a superb catch at short leg. From then on, a combination of good bowling from Riaz and Dial, and poor shot selection left Stanford staring down the barrel at 61-6. Enter Harry Maher who proceeded to produce one of the best 100's you will see on a damp track eventually finishing on 103 not out. He was backed up by Clive Ballard (10), Kevin Smith (20) and Sam Spooner (3*) who showed the top order how to survive in such tricky conditions.
After reaching 200, the mood was positive in the Stanford dressing room. But this was quickly quashed by the opposition as they quickly reached 131-2. Sam Spooner (4-41) then produced a fine spell of off spin bowling to shackle the West Essex batsman and wickets began to tumble with regularity. Unfortunately, with the West Essex batsman chancing there arm at every opportunity, they reached there target of 201 with 9 balls remaining and claimed an important victory.

SLHCC 2nd XI 152 all out v Orsett 2nd XI 156 - 4
Drew Robinson 35 Paul Reynolds 25*   Josh Reid 3 - 40 Daryl Woodford 1 - 32

After losing the toss, Stanford's 2nd string was put into bat against the 2nd XI Division 3 table toppers Orsett. A few Stanford players got good starts but nobody really kicked on and got that all important big score as wickets fell at regular intervals with Scott Douglas (4-29) the main contributor to the wicket column. Drew Robinson (35), Alex Ellis (22) and Ian Sanderson (20) all batted well but will be disappointed that they got out when they did. Paul Reynolds (25*) showed some spirited resistance but ran out of partners as Stanford scraped past the 150 mark.
The Orsett openers got away side off to a solid start with Iqbal (29) and Sherlock (61*) taking it to the Stanford attack. 3 quick wickets from Aussie Josh Reid (3-40) briefly gave Stanford a glimmer of hope but Sherlock and Kooyman (19*) took Orsett past the finishing line.

SLHCC 3rd XI 218 - 6 v  Hadleigh & Thundersley 4th XI 73 all out
Jon Fuller 48 Geoff Lake 39   Colin Knight 5 - 22 Charlie Gleisinger 2 - 19

The 3rd XI got back to winning ways with a comprehensive win against Hadleigh & Thundersley 4th XI on Saturday. Upon winning the toss, skipper Geoff Lake decided his team would have a bat and this proved to be an excellent decision. All of the Stanford batsmen contributed to the 218 score with Jon Fuller (48), Lake (39) and Bret Ingram (34) looking in some great form.
Hadleigh's response never really got going with 8 of their batsmen failing to get past double figures. A couple of wickets each from Fuller (2-26) and young Charlie Gleisinger (2-19) was eclipsed by Colin Knight, who recorded his first 5 wicket haul of the season as the Hadleigh batsmen struggled with his accurate line and length bowling . 4 out of his 5 victims were bowled and it was left to another youngster, Ryan Smith, to wrap up the win with the final wicket of innings.

SLHCC 4th XI 30 all out v Chelmsford 5th XI 34 - 3
Jono Symes 8 Adrian Page 4   Matt Hasler 2 - 10 Laura Knight 1 - 16

Stanford 4th XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a strong Chelmsford 5th XI. After the opposition captain decided to insert Stanford into bat, the Chelmsford bowling attack destroyed the very much 'patched-up' 4th XI side with Mark Coups (4-12) and Adi Vohra (3-2) the pick of the bowlers. No batsmen got past double figures with the top score being extras with 13!
With Chelmsford (only requiring 31 runs for victory) on 29-0, it looked like a 10 wicket victory was on the cards. But in the space of 5 balls, the score had moved to 30-3 and with Laura Knight (1-16) removing Thrift (16) and two wickets in 3 balls from Matt Hasler (2-10) to give Stanford an extra point and something to cheer about. Chelmsford then closed out the win the following ball.
