An
excellent all-round bowling performance was the platform for another 2nd
XI victory at Stanford Rec. All the bowlers contributed with Paul Reynolds
(3-25), Josh Reid (1-18) and Ian Sanderson (1-28) all bowling well but it
was Daryl Woodford’s 5-25 of 9.2 overs that was the difference. The Old
Parks batsmen couldn’t cope with his accurate line and length as he claimed
his first 5for of the season.
Chasing 124 for victory, the Stanford opening pair put on half century
opening stand, but when Rob Pearn (24) and Sean Barker (18) fell, it was
left to promising young all-rounder Harry Cook who smashed the bowling to
all parts of the field to finish on an unbeaten 55 and ensure the full 18
points were in the bag. |

Stanford
3rd XI suffered a big defeat to dent their promotion hopes in this away
fixture with Billericay 4th XI. With stand in Captain, Adrain Page winning
the toss and deciding to have a bat, Stanford were 19-5 with the pick of the
bowlers being Daniel Mower (4-7). Youngster Lawrence Petts, batting at 7,
strolled out and hit a mature 34 runs which helped the team get to a very
modest, but not embarrassing, 82 all out.
However, Billericay were rarely troubled chasing down 83 with Ben Tarten
(1-10) being the only bowler to take a wicket as they won with 9 wickets

Stand in
Skipper Neil Doherty could not prevent the 4th XI from losing to local
rivals Orsett. With the extras column helping with 24, it was only Doherty
(17) and Matt Hasler (12) who managed double figures for Stanford as they
limped to 74 all out with Orsett’s Nathan Smith taking an impressive 4
wickets for 15 runs.
Orsett had decided to bat first in this game and thanks to an unbeaten 51
from Matthew Whyman and 48 from skipper Paul Boreham, Orsett declared on 208
– 8. Pick of the Stanford bowlers were Geoff Gullett (4-49) and Jon Key
(3-24). |
