Stanford
continued there promotion push towards Division 2 with a convincing win over
local neighbours Belhus. After winning the toss and batting, Stanford
openers Peter Gray and Dave Noble got off to a solid start against some
tight opening bowling. After Noble fell, Gray showed off his vast array of
shots and pushed the score on with Robert Page (29). Gray eventually was out
for 83 but had given the middle order a great base to attack and with his
brother Michael scoring 27 runs off only 9 balls at the end, Belhus were set
232 to win.
Belhus'
reply got off to a rapid start with Didd and Huckstepp dominating
proceedings. Didd then fell to Reynolds and Huckstepp quickly followed off
the bowling of Aussie Harry Maher. Maher then continued to rip through the
Belhus batting line up and finished with impressive figures of 5-32. Belhus
were eventually all out for 113 with Stanford taking the maximum 20 points
to move one step closer to promotion. |

On a fine
summer’s afternoon, 2nd XI captain Andy Powley decided his team
would bowl first after winning the toss against Belhus. After an early
breakthrough from young aussie Josh Reid (1-32), Belhus took control of the
match with Gavin Jefferies (86) and Mark Samsom (26) sharing a 78 run 2nd
wicket partnership. Another Stanford youngster, Ben Tarten (1-27), got the
important breakthrough in removing Samsom with wickets then falling at
regular intervals. A brief spell of aggressive hitting from Scott Bayford
(38) was ended by Daryl Woodford (5-29) who went on to take another
impressive 5 wicket haul with Belhus finishing their innings on 248.
An excellent
opening partnership of 91 from Alex Ellis (32) and Duncan Page (86) gave
Stanford a perfect start to their large run chase. Page was to share in
another big partnership of 85 with Reid (75*) as both batsmen took it to the
Belhus bowling attack and it was left to Reid and Dean Hitchcock (16*), to
see Stanford over the line with 3 overs of the match remaining. |
