A season's best bowling
performance from Captain Ross Poulton helps Stanford's 1st XI to another
victory and keeps them 38 points clear of 3rd place. After losing the toss,
Stanford were asked to bowl first and the Ongar openers enjoyed a solid 70
run opening partnership. Poulton decided to bring himself on and it wasn't
long before Stanford were celebrating the breakthrough with the captain
bowling Ben Chambers for 30. Poulton then took another 6 more wickets to end
up with match figures of 7 - 40 with Adcock (65) the only batsmen to pass
50.
In response, Stanford lost
opener Noble early on but this only brought together the two form batsmen in
the team. Peter Gray (68*) and Lee Knight (88*), who are both averaging
close to 100 runs every time they bat, shared a 150 run partnership with
both batsmen hitting some delightful shots and never really looking like
they were in trouble. After Gray departed the field due to illness, Robert
Page joined Knight to take Stanford to the required total. |
