Match Week Fifteen

SLHCC 1st XI 190 - 1 v Ongar 1st XI 189 all out
Lee Knight 88* Peter Gray 60*   Ross Poulton 7 - 40 Harry Maher 2 - 78

A season's best bowling performance from Captain Ross Poulton helps Stanford's 1st XI to another victory and keeps them 38 points clear of 3rd place. After losing the toss, Stanford were asked to bowl first and the Ongar openers enjoyed a solid 70 run opening partnership. Poulton decided to bring himself on and it wasn't long before Stanford were celebrating the breakthrough with the captain bowling Ben Chambers for 30. Poulton then took another 6 more wickets to end up with match figures of 7 - 40 with Adcock (65) the only batsmen to pass 50.

In response, Stanford lost opener Noble early on but this only brought together the two form batsmen in the team. Peter Gray (68*) and Lee Knight (88*), who are both averaging close to 100 runs every time they bat, shared a 150 run partnership with both batsmen hitting some delightful shots and never really looking like they were in trouble. After Gray departed the field due to illness, Robert Page joined Knight to take Stanford to the required total.

SLHCC 3rd XI 85 - 3 v Ardleigh Green 5th XI 82 all out
Peter Victory 34 Rob Pearn 32   John Harris 3 - 26 Neil Fuller 2 - 10

Stanford's captain Geoff Lake guessed correctly with the coin toss and didn't hesitate in inserting the home team to bat and it turned out to be the right decision. Only a handful of home batsmen got into double figures with all of the Stanford bowlers getting wickets. John Harris (3-26), Neil Fuller (2-10), Charlie Gleisinger (2-10), Ryan Smith (2-24) and Colin Knight (1-9) were the contributors in restricting Green to 82 all out.

Losing Neil Fuller for a duck did not worry Peter Victory (34) and Rob Pearn (32) as they shared in a 50 run partnership and it was left to number 4 Clive Ballard (12*) to hit the winning runs.

SLHCC Sunday XI 211 - 5 v Benfleet Sunday XI 209 - 6
Harry Maher 62 Lee Knight 52   Kevin Smith 2 - 34 Greg Barr 2 - 39

After losing the toss, Stanford's Sunday XI bowled first and enjoyed an early breakthrough when Daryl Woodford (1-20) bowled opener James Wilkins. Benfleet's Rob Zammit enjoyed some good fortune in hitting 67 before he became Kevin Smith's (2-34) second wicket. With Benfleet 139-5 after 30 overs, Stanford took their foot of the gas and allowed Andy White (43*) and Sean Pritchard (47) to take the total to 209.

A shaky start from the Stanford batsmen was soon forgotten when Aussie Harry Maher (62) and captain Lee Knight (52) stroked the bowling to all parts of the Rec and shared a century stand to take Stanford to within 50 runs of victory. Both batsmen however fell to David Masson and it was left to Ian Sanderson (28*) and an inventive Ross Poulton (29*) to score the remaining runs in quick time so give Stanford their 8th league win of the season.
