Match Week Eleven

SLHCC 1st XI 93 - 2 v Southend 1st XI 90 all out
Peter Gray 52* Robert Page 36*   Kevin Smith 6 - 48 Ross Poulton 3 - 21

A fine, sustained spell of bowling from Kevin Smith (6-48), had the visitors in all sorts of trouble at Stanford Rec. A short burst from Harry Maher saw another early wicket, before skipper Ross Poulton (3-21) teamed up with Smith to shoot Southend out for a meagre 90, with only 3 players making it into double figures.

A couple of quick wickets raised the Southend hopes as Stanford began their reply. However, the rock that is Peter Gray (52no) soon frustrated the visiting bowling. Finding an ideal foil in Robert Page (36no) the pair added the 70 needed to win with no further alarms

SLHCC 2nd XI 138 - 3 v Southend 2nd XI 136 all out
Drew Robinson 47* Josh Reid 39*   Daryl Woodford 4 - 39 Ian Sanderson 3 - 11

Hostile bowling from Daryl Woodford (4-39), Ian Sanderson (3-11) and Josh Reid (2-22), had the Southend batting in disarray at Southchurch Park. A top score of 19 from Roger Walcott, indicates how much of a struggle it was for the home batsmen.

Patrick Kearney (2-39) struck early for the home side, but Luke Dennis (25) Andy Robinson (47no) and Josh Reid (39no) made the game safe, with the latter two sharing an unbroken stand of 68 to see Stanford home.

SLHCC 3rd XI 133 - 5 v  Benfleet 4th XI 293 - 6 dec
Peter Victory 43 Neil Fuller 33   Ben Tarten 2 - 40 John Harris 2 - 112

Benfleet obviously had no intention of losing this game, batting on until their total was virtually unreachable. Regular 2nd team opener Luke Slatford made the most of being dropped 2nd ball to smash 153 and in partnership with fellow opener John Bull (65), had the Stanford bowlers wilting. However, youngsters Ben Tarten (2-40) and Andy Freeman (1-29) stuck at the task well.

Stanford showed no interest in the chase, with Peter Victory (43) and Neil Fuller (33), sharing a sedate opening stand of 69. A rattle of wickets towards the end of the innings actually flattered the Benfleet team somewhat as they had to settle for bonus points only.

SLHCC 4th XI 148 all out v Belhus 4th XI 226 all out
Adrian Page 57 Jono Symes 30   Charlie Gleisinger 3 - 33 Michael Armoogum 3 -42

A defiant half century from Captain Adrian Page was not enough for the 4th XI as they lost to Belhus on Saturday. Chasing a huge 226 runs for victory, Page (57) and young Jono Symes (30) were the only batsmen that looked like getting Stanford near to that total as most of the batting line up failed to trouble the bowlers. Aftab Ahmed (4-15) being the pick of the opposition bowlers.

Earlier, Stanford dismissed Belhus for 226 with Belhus’s Taz Ali falling just 3 runs short of an impressive century. Michael Armoogum (3-42) bowled well in his first game for the club and the impressive Charlie Gleisinger (3-33) added to his Saturday league wicket tally to reach 15 for the season so far.
