SLHCC 1st XI 204 all out v Epping 1st XI 86 all out
Kevin Smith 46 Adam Knight 33   Harry Maher 5 - 23 Clive Ballard 5 - 36

Stanford 1st eleven's last game of the season pitted them against Epping. After winning the toss and batting, Stanford got off to a flying start thanks to Kevin Smith (47) and Martin Leslie (19) who put on 76 for the first wicket. The quick scoring continued as first team debutant Adam Knight (33) and Sam Spooner (17) also tucked into some wayward bowling. Only the introduction of Dipesh Bidiwala put the brakes on the Stanford scoring and he finished with 6-45 as Stanford were all out in the 39th over for 204.

Epping’s reply also started with a bang as Matt Higgins and Leslie struggled to find the pitch. Opener Dan Sly had reached 41 before he became the first of Clive Ballard’s victims. Ballard, who bowled unchanged throughout the innings, then claimed a further 4 wickets to finish with figures of 5-36 and posed the question why had he not bowled more this season. Clive was well supported by Harry Maher (5-23). After the game skipper Ross Poulton commented

It’s a great end to a great season. We achieved what we set out to do and get promoted. It will be a lot tougher next year but feel this team is ready to take the next step and we will relish the challenge '.

SLHCC 2nd XI 120 - 1 v Epping 2nd XI 118 all out
Alex Ellis 56* Josh Reid 39*   Ian Sanderson 4 - 38 Paul Reynolds 3 - 31

Stanford’s 2nd XI missed out on promotion by just 1 point in an agonising end to the season. Knowing they needed to better Buckhurst Hill by 12 points, Home captain Andy Powley chose to bowl first which surprised a few. The 2’s bowling attack set about their task in devastating fashion with Greg Barr (2-11), Paul Reynolds (3-31) and Ian Sanderson (4-38) cleaning out the opposition, reducing them to a paltry 118.

In response, the loss of Sean Barker was the only negative point as Alex Ellis (56*) and Josh Reid (39*) put on a century stand to lead Stanford to 18 points in just 15.4 overs. After the match, a tense wait ensued to find out if Buckhurst Hill had got 6 points or less. Unfortunately they managed 7 to the enormous frustration of the whole team and club.

SLHCC 3rd XI 195 - 2 v Chingford CC 4th XI 191 all out
Rob Pearn 66* Geoff Lake 55   John Harris 5 - 53 Ben Tarten 2 - 34

The 3rd XI also suffered the heartache of missing out narrowly on promotion as victory was just not enough to see them creep over the line. Chingford won the toss and decided to have a bat at Stanford Rec. Sam Hollis (41) and Andrew MacGregor (38) were the only batsmen to trouble the scorers as 3rd XI leading wicket taker John Harris took another 5 wicket haul to keep the opposition to below the 200 mark.

Stanford’s reply was a solid affair. Rob Pearn (66*) and Geoff Lake (55) put on 114 for the second wicket and it was left to Pearn and youngster Sam Sewell (12*) to hit the winning runs. Stanford missed out on promotion by just 6 points.
