Essex Sunday League 22nd of June 2008

Belhus XI 136 - 7 (40 overs)

Lee Knight (2-13) Kevin Smith (2-29)

Stanford XI 139 - 4

Kevin Smith 52* Ross Poulton 36*

Stanford Sunday XI recorded their second win of the season against Belhus this Sunday thanks in part to 2 'old' heads.

Stanford lost the toss and were asked to field on a sunny, Sunday afternoon where conditions were perfect for batting. Belhus started at a steady pace with openers Guilbert (27) and Day (16) hitting some fine boundries. Stanford's opener James Drain (1-29) removed Day's middle stump and along with fellow opener Ian Sanderson (0-21), bowled well in blustery conditions and kept a good line and length throughout. Guilbert and Belhus number 3 Fogg (28) were looking well set before Ross Poulton (1-18) and Kevin Smith (2-29) removed both batsmen and kept the pressure on belhus with some excellent tight bowling that probably deserved more than the 3 wickets that were taken. Daryl Woodford and Adam Knight continued the tight bowling and skipper Lee Knight picked up a couple of wickets late on when the Belhus batsmen tried to add some late runs.

Stanford's reply started shakily. Openers Lee Knight (19) and Nathan Shearer (20) both got started but a good spell of bowling from Jeffries (3-11) coupled with some poor shots left Stanford reeling at 46-4. Enter Ross Poulton (36 Not Out) and Kevin Smith (52 Not Out) again. After their great form with the ball, they both continued this with the bat and proceeded to play some delightful shots with some watchful defence work to put on an unbeaten 93 partnership to guide Stanford home to a 6 wicket victory.
