Match Reports  17.5.08

1st XI at Buckhurst Hill

Stanford 200-6 (50.1 overs)                 Buckhurst Hill  127-8  (30 overs)

Ross Poulton 87, Bill Poskitt Jnr 36    John Allen 67,  Greg Barr 5-67

Lee Knight 33                                     Ross Poulton 3-6

Rain delayed the start of the match and wet conditions hampered the over rates to such an extent that Stanford ran out of the time they needed to force a win. Bill Poskitt Jnr (36) had ensured Stanford enjoyed a solid start, but it was a 6th wicket partnership of 122 between Ross Poulton (87) and Lee Knight (33) that saw Stanford clinch maximum batting points.

Hill’s reply was a sticky affair, as Greg Barr bowled through the innings to pick up 5-67. John Allen’s defiant 67 held Stanford at bay, but the introduction of Poulton’s left-arm spin had the home team on the rack. He picked up 3-6 from eight overs, but the home team held on grimly as time ran out.

Match Drawn -  Stanford 11 points    Buckhurst Hill 3 points

Ricky Tavio 24no M. Yaseen Snr 4-30

In drizzly conditions, the two sides did well to complete this match. Stanford made a good fist of batting first, with skipper Geoff Lake (73) leading by example. He shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 89 with Jon Fuller (38) to put Stanford in a strong position. The introduction of the wily ‘Yas’ Yaseen, (4-30) put a brake on proceedings and Stanford were grateful to Ricky Tavio (24no) for some solid hitting, to allow them to post 182.

The Fives reply was solid as youngsters Jerrom (37) and Rudkin (35) built a half-century partnership. A run-out and a couple of Andy Powley wickets had Stanford back in the match, But the match-winning innings came from Pete Harris, who made light of the treacherous conditions to smash a swift 60no and clinch the match with time to spare.
