Stanford le Hope Match Reports Aug 16 2008 1st XI at home to Woodford Green Woodford Green 78ao (26 overs) Stanford 80-3 (18.4 overs) Woodford Green’s resistance was destroyed by Stanford’s opening bowlers. Daryl Woodford (5-34) and Kevin Smith (2-36) had the visitors under the cosh from the opening overs. Stanford were helped considerably by some poor shot selection and dreadful work between the wickets that led to two run-outs. There was also a couple of fantastic catches that put the icing on the cake. Stanford’s reply was cautious to begin with as Lee Knight (17) and Duncan Page (12) progressed the score slowly. However, Nathan Shearer (45no) took charge as soon as he came to the crease and despite Iqbal’s 3 wickets, saw his side to a comfortable 7 wicket win. Green began well, with the vastly experienced Rob Newman (78), leading the way. He shared a big half-century partnership with fellow opener Darby(32), that had Stanford on the rack. However, the visitors fought back well through Andy Powley (4-65) and it was only some late order swinging from Raza (38), that saw Woodford over the 200 mark. Relying on a good start from their only experienced batsmen, Powley (10) and Mark Knight (13), the Stanford men were dismayed when , after a cautious start, both were rapidly dismissed. The youngsters in the team were unable to cope with Raza (4-16) and Hayes (3-19) and rapidly succumbed to a heavy 152 run defeat. With help from Marc Easter (20) a good little stand of 46 for the 2nd wicket saw them at 64-1 after 20 overs with a good platform. Lake continued, but the rest of the batting folded like the proverbial pack of cards, No-one else made it to double figures as the Gooday brothers and Darling picked up 3 wickets each. Defending only 122, Stanford needed to put early pressure on. Whilst Adrian Page (1-39) bowled tightly throughout, runs were leaked at the other end as Ian Harris (25), Hutton skipper Nick Watson (47no) and Young James Moull (29no) eased their side to a nine wicket win. Stanford III 0 points Hutton IV 18 points Due to poor availability, the 4th XI game against Wickford was conceded. |
