102 for 4 (31.1 overs) Basildon
and Pitsea win by 6 wickets. Basildon
and Pitsea won the toss and elected to field. Stanford
had another disappointing day at Mopsies Park. Having lost another toss, only
opener Robert Page managed to get among the runs, scoring a fine 58. Wickets
fell regularly, and extras ended as the second top scorer. It was another
lacklustre batting display from the borough team. Although
Stanford managed to take four Basildon and Pitsea wickets, the home team was
never in trouble and the result was a foregone conclusion. Basildon

2nd XI 127
for 8 Match
drawn Stanford
won the toss and elected to field. It
was a tough day for the home team at the Rec. Once again, the young opening
attack of Woodford (3 for 69 from 16 overs) and Ian Sanderson (1 for 38 from 12)
bowled creditably. Stanford were very unfortunate with a number of decisions not
given in their favour. Due to this, at one point Basildon looked like they were
going to set a huge total, with Lambert making a half century. However,
concentration and perseverance in the field restricted the visitors to 207. Stanford’s
top order struggled for the second consecutive week against a more than useful
Basildon and Pitsea attack. Not until skipper Hitchcock (22) joined Neil Fuller
(21) at the crease was disaster averted. They were followed by youngsters Matt
Higgins (29) and Luke Dennis (9), who both showed maturity beyond their years in
frustrating the visiting bowlers. Although in the box seat, Basildon never
looked likely to finish Stanford off. The match ended in a draw. SLHCC
3rd XI
71 all out Southend-on-Sea
72-1 Southend-on-Sea
win by 9 wickets Southend
won the toss and elected to field. It
was a bad day at the office for Stanford 3rds. Put in on a difficult pitch at
the Billet, the home team were skittled out for 71 in an hour and a half. Only
Paul Cross managed to make his mark with a steady 27. Adrian
Hicks picked up the only Southend wicket to fall in the reply, as the visitors
cruised home to win by 9 wickets at 3.35. To add insult to injury, tea was taken
at the end of the match ! SLHCC
4th XI
129 for 8 Wickford
130
for 3 Wickford
win by 7 wickets This
game will go down in the annals of Stanford Cricket Club for the most farcical
of reasons. 11 overs into the match with Stanford 32 for 2, a third cricket team
arrived at the Wickford ground saying it was their pitch ! After much
discussion, the game was abandoned and fortunately a new venue was found. In
the ‘second’ match, Stanford again batted first making 129 for 8 from 36
overs. C Knight, Youngman, skipper Doherty, M Easter (25) and Gleisinger all
made double figures, yet extras still top scored with 30. Stanford
used 8 bowlers in an attempt to destabilise Wickford. Young M Drain was the pick
of the bunch with 2 of 11 from 4 overs. However, the home team never looked in
trouble and reached the Stanford total for the loss of only three wickets. |
