Shepherd Neame League June 2nd 07

1st XI at Harlow

Stanford 73ao (30.2 overs)                 Harlow 77-1 (19 overs)

A poor batting display put paid to any hope of a decent result for Stanford. An opening stand of 33 for the first wicket between the Page brothers, Robert (21) and Matthew (11) was the highlight of the innings. After that, only Ross Poulton (18) made it into double figures as half the team failed to score. It was a canter of a win for the home side as Nils Odedra (44no) led the way.

2nd XI at home to Shenfield

Stanford 108ao 2nd  (37.2 overs)               Shenfield 2nd 112 – 7 (30.3 overs)

A low scoring match produced an exciting ending as the visitors just scraped home. Stanford lost an early couple of wickets, but opener Mark Knight (27) and young Luke Dennis (30no) seemed to have redeemed the situation at 62-2. However, with Andy Hayes (4-46) ploughing through a steady 18 overs at one end, the introduction of the off-spin of John Kliber (5-28) changed the course of the match. He struck with a hat-trick in his 7th over, to plunge the innings into complete disarray and leave Dennis high and dry without a partner.

Shenfield lost an early wicket, but recovered well and looked to be in no trouble. However, the introduction of Ian Sanderson (3-18) and John Harris (3-27) saw them stumble to 73 – 7 and Stanford sensed a chance. However, Castell (23no) and Owers (12no) kept their heads to see the visitors home.

3rd XI at home to Old Parkonians

Stanford 3rd 161-5 (52 overs)                           Old Parkonians 4th 164 – 2 (36.3 overs)

Robert Pearn (88) was the batting hero for Stanford as he held the batting together for all but 2 overs of the innings. His main support came in a 93 run partnership for the 5th wicket with keeper, John Charman (18no). It proved to be an inadequate total however, as Karuna (67), Porter (35no) and Tack (28no) eased the visitors past the total with plenty of time in hand.

4th XI at Hutton

Stanford 78ao (27.5 overs)                             Hutton 5ths 79 – 2 (14.3 overs)

Stanford were never really in this match, as call-ups to higher teams decimated the line-up. They were shot out for 78 by Saunders (4-17) and John Mowll (3-17).  Only Danny Tavio (12), made it to double figures and it was a generous 36 extras that made the biggest contribution. Hutton had no difficulties making the total, despite the loss of an early wicket. James Mowll (37no) made sure there were no further alarms.
